Licensed professional required
Electrical work in Canada must be designed and performed by a licensed electrician holding the appropriate provincial certification. Electrical installations require a permit in all Canadian provinces. Structural designs — including beam sizing, roof framing, and deck construction — require review by a licensed structural engineer or designer for permit applications in most jurisdictions. HVAC system sizing and installation must be performed by a licensed HVAC contractor. Always obtain the required permits and inspections.
Provincial and local variations
Canadian provinces may adopt local amendments to base codes (CEC, NBCC, CSA standards). Municipal authorities may impose additional requirements. Calculator results reflect the base Canadian standard as listed on each page — they do not account for provincial amendments or local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements. Verify all results with your local AHJ before proceeding with any design or installation.
